I have been a lazy blogger lately. I finally got my WordPress iPhone App working again, so now it will be easier for me to blog my London-ness.
Two nights ago I had a really fun night out with my co-workers, who in most cases are also my best friends.
In this instance it was an official work people pub quiz night, but first I went to Soho with two of my friends for some veggie goodness.
Looks like an amazing salad, right? Well, it was amazing … until I discovered cilantro EVERYWHERE (I thought it was parsley!). I picked it apart until there was salad all over the box and lid, but not much actually in me, and then I gave it to my friend Sam.
I was in a bad mood because of my ruined salad box, but that didn’t last long because we stopped off at a random Mexican restaurant for frozen Margaritas and snacks! Black beans have always been a favorite of mine, but I will admit they can sometimes be bland in restaurant dips and soups. These were GREAT. And reasonably priced, too! Only about £3 for this pot, and we were basically in tourist central. (OK – so the drinks were £8 a piece, but the food was reasonable!)
The restaurant was very cool and I loved the view from the restaurant. So London!
The view from our window seat:
The next day I had a HORRIBLE headache (not related to the Margaritas – I wasn’t even tipsy) and ended up having to leave work early. I never used to get headaches and have never had a migraine but this was so bad so I went home and relaxed for the rest of the day.
When I woke up at 8 the next morning to go to work, I thought I’d take the stronger painkillers (with codeine) my doctor gave me and try to get a little more rest before going to work. I didn’t want to have to leave again so I wanted to make sure I was fine. At about 11 I decided to go get a big, healthy breakfast, see how I felt and if I was fine I’d go into work. I took more of the painkillers, because the directions said take two pills four times per day.
I always feel that something like a headache isn’t worth staying off work for, but I’ve been having a lot of headaches recently so I had to tell myself “NO! Take care of yourself and relax and if you’re fine then go to work. TAKE IT EASY.” It’s hard for me to take it easy and not do anything, so I have to yell at myself.
I went to one of my favorite breakfast places and got mushrooms and scrambled eggs on toast, my favorite coffee (where they bring you espresso + chocolate + cream all in separate cups so you can mix yourself) and a free sample of their new lemon olive oil – which was great! I love lemon everything.
Half eaten when I remembered to take a picture.
I thought I felt fine, but slightly out of it because of the painkillers. I got to work and it went downhill from there. Within an hour I started feeling really thirsty and sick, and then every time I looked around it seemed like time was moving slowly. My hands started shaking and I felt like I had motion sickness, which was totally freaking me out. I ended up leaving work AGAIN after two hours, which was really embarrassing. Then on the walk home I was freaking out even more and couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me. I felt so tired, like I hadn’t slept for three days.
I ended up in bed until 9 p.m., not moving and maybe sleeping ?? But I was out of it. Then I talked to one of my friends and realized I just had a bad reaction to the codeine in the pills, and had all the classic side effects of the drug.
The same thing happened to me when I was given Vicodin after my wisdom teeth operation. I was SO out of it, the world was spinning, and I was passed out but still able to feel the pain. It was such a bad, weird experience that I took those only once and threw out the bottle after that. Maybe I’m just not used to drugs so anything stronger than Ibuprofen makes me freak out. Who knows?? I feel fine now, which is good because I’m going back to the US in exactly ONE WEEK!!! I can’t wait!!
I’ve already planned it out. My dad is picking me up in his Corvette (which I requested, even though it means my family taking two cars), then we’re going with my mom and sister to get fried pickles from Smash Burger, then a Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks and then some shopping at Target. THEN I’m seeing more family in the evening and spending some quality time with my gorgeous CATS.
It’s great going home only once a year, because your family will do anything you want. They even let me listen to country music radio in the car!
